Fibre network data

Carrier maps and KMZ files.

KMZ files can contain fibre lines, facility points or coverage areas. The files below identify what each source actually provides.

Find additional provider names.

ISED’s National Broadband Data catalogue includes KMZ map data and provider-road data in GeoPackage format.[117]

Coverage files describe where a provider offers service. They do not establish a local fibre backbone, POP or wavelength route.

Lumen’s network map.

Lumen publishes an interactive global network map. It includes owned, leased-access and IRU segments without distinguishing them, and its terms prohibit duplication.[114]

Requesting a route file.

For regional planning, a useful request covers Toronto–Peterborough–Ottawa–Montréal and Toronto–Buffalo, with the required facility endpoints. Ask for the file date, operational and planned routes, ownership or lease classifications, and permission to display the data on a public website. Keep NDA route files out of the public map.
